LATITUDE: Phase 2 Greenland

My project started over a year ago. Three everyday women with a passion for skiing and a competitive background put together a self-funded trip of a lifetime. Last May, we embarked on our first true backcountry expedition on a 50 ft sailboat called the Knut to some of the most northern fjords on the west coast of Svalbard, Norway. We had a professional filmer with us and worked hard to get some amazing footage, all while laughing, creating memories, and first ascents! Fast forward six months and this project is coming to fruition with a short 8-12 minute film. My ultimate dream is to go back but this time to the east coast of Greenland. I'm confident in the women, in the captain, in the boat, in the talented filmer Wesley Walker, but I dream of going bigger, of pushing ourselves farther, of continuing this passion project longer! I dream of places more north, more extreme, more remote. I dream of the challenges: backcountry breakdowns, frustration, tight living conditions, but I also dream once again of the all women's summit top euphoria, of skiing amongst polar bears and cracking glaciers. This project may sound familiar: it includes Dynastar athlete Jessica Baker and was proposed to the Dynastar marketing department just months ago. I dream to make it happen and share the story of everyday women collectively getting after it in TWO remote corners of the globe, sailing and back country skiing in Svalbard & East Greenland. Help my two year dream project come true!

“The arctic landscape evokes a conflicting sense of awe and fear. It trains the eye to see movement in its stillness: sastrugi coupled with far off crevasses, which dump deep blue ice onto ripples of water reflecting the low-hanging clouds above. Murmurations whirling and darting in the sky as we probe at our feet. Then, the deafening silence of the summit and tapering breath.”⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣.⁣ Read more at @stiomountain & the @skidagram blog. Last spring I had the opportunity to go on a dream trip to the Arctic. So, how was it...actually? If you’ve got a minute, head on over to the @stiomountain blog to read my words about the rawness and magic of unexpected, in-between moments in the north and the @skidagram blog to read about our team’s sometimes-clunky, often-delirious transition from competitive skiing to our first real backcountry expedition. Excited to say there’s more to come with the Latitude Project! Big thanks to @jacksonholebabeforce @stiomountain & @skidagram for their support, and @dynastarskis @lookbindings @lange_boots.
